Shimano Ultegra 6870 Di2 11-32 Cassette with Short Cage Rear Derailleur

My Canyon Ultimate SLX 2016 (Shimano Ultegra Di2) bike was delivered with 52-36 chainrings and a 11-28 cassette. For the place where I´m staying (Switzerland) this transmission is a bit too long, because I’m not the youngest anymore and we have many hills with inclines of 5%-15% or more. Therefore I have changed the Ultegra chainrings to 50-34 and the cassette to 11-32. But wait, according to Shimano a Long Cage derailleur is necessary. On the internet are different options about using a SS derailleur on a 11-32 cassette. Some people say you can do it other say the opposite. I just gave it a try to see for myself whether it works or not. Installing the cassette was straight forward.

After 1000+ km with this configuration I didn´t have any problems. The only thing to avoid is driving the big-big which is the 50 to 32 combination. Driving big-big creates some grinding noises. Since I’m using the Garmin Edge 1000 and the Shimano D-Fly I can monitor the gears very easy and avoid that.

Below are two images of the Shimano Ultegra 11-32 (11-Speed) Cassette with the Short Cage Rear Derailleur.

Cheers
